Biobased PLA woven Natural ground cloth | Duracover®
An alternative to using polypropylene ground cloth is a ground cloth made of PLA obtained from corn starch. This ground cloth, Duracover®, has the same technical properties as PP fabrics; it is air and water permeable, minimal shrinkage (maximum 2% at 70°C, over a period of two hours) and it is easy to install and cut. In addition, it possesses high tensile strength and is UV resistant. The fabric is OK Compost - certified, referring to Duracover's full industrial compostability. The rating "four-star biobased" gives it the highest possible rating.
Application for Japanese knotweed
In the Netherlands, it was used to control the invasive Japanese knotweed on the expansion of the industrial area in Doetinchem (5,000 m²). In France, it was deployed on the Ligne Grand Vitesse between Tours - Bordeaux and Le Mans-Rennes, along the tramway in Nice and in the construction of the park around the Musée Soulages in Rodez.
For more possibilities against Japanese knotweed read also the application with the TDK40SNW. This application is also included in the Handbook "applying underground root cover within urban areas to control Japanese knotweed".
