Further expansion of biobased range with PLA
Sustainable thinking is also gaining ground in the world of GWW and Infra. We notice this especially because more and more of our customers are asking for natural alternatives for their polypropylene geotextiles. For that reason, we have expanded our bio-based product range even further with woven and non-woven PLA. Are you also ready for this sustainable step forward?
For anything in infra that needs to last more than a few months, we supply polypropylene (PP) geotextiles. Perfect for use as anti-root fabric, but not the most responsible option from a sustainability point of view. Fortunately, at TEFAB you can also choose naturally based geotextiles that last for years and leave no (micro)plastics in the environment.
What is PLA?
PLA is short for English polylactic acid. It is a biodegradable natural plastic produced from lactic acid from renewable plant resources, such as corn starch or sugarcane. Biodegradable means that it can be broken down by microorganisms (fungi and bacteria) intoCO2, which is then stored in the soil. In contrast, it says nothing about how long it takes to fully decompose. Depending on the structure, composition and application of the material, it can literally last for years without losing properties and quality.
What can you use PLA for?
Woven and non-woven, PLA is the ideal primer for many infra applications:
- On flat or slightly convex surfaces, such as traffic circles
- On slopes, such as banks, embankments and dikes
- Along long stretches with hedges and hedgerows
- As an ecologically sound anti-root cloth
- For applications where very good water permeability is a requirement
- For broad- or deep-rooted overgrowth of infrastructure works
What's so special about TEFAB's PLA?
The quality of our PLA non-woven geotextile is truly 100% biobased. In other words, it is made without the use of PP netting or PP thread. It is also a very easy material to process. The advantages of all this:
- You save on costs for labor, raw materials, maintenance.
- The material can remain "biodiversity-safe" as a responsible basis for compost in the long run.
- You pay no disposal fee because of this.
